Cosmetic Tattooing

Whether you pencil in your brows daily due to years of over-plucking, suffer from hair loss and feel uncomfortable with your appearance, or simply have very fair colouring – whatever your concern, I could make a dramatic change in your life with a brow treatment.

I speak to many people who suffer confidence loss silently as a result of their eyebrows - or lack of them! This may sound dramatic - but it’s true. Men and women alike who miss out on activities with family and friends, turn down all kinds of events, shy away from taking part in sports, and skip anything that involves this sounding familiar?

With semi permanent cosmetics there really is no reason to carry on missing out on things. As I speak to so many in this position, I know that it’s not usually something that suddenly happens overnight. Only when you have done something about it do you realise what you’ve been living with!

The first part of the process is a consultation. This is normally done as part of your initial treatment, but can be done separately if you prefer. I will talk with you in great detail about the look you are trying to achieve and what I might recommend to you. This is very much a two-way conversation. I listen, respond and advise. Once we have an idea of the look you are aiming for, I will draw the brows on with a makeup pencil. These can be drawn on and adjusted 50 times if necessary! I will never begin the tattoo process until you are completely happy with what they are going to look like.

Using a specialist facial tattooing machine, which works at a much lower frequency than a standard tattoo machine, I gently apply pigment to the skin using very fine needles. The sensation is that of an electric toothbrush being held against your skin – you feel the vibrations but you should not feel any discomfort. I will always work with you at this stage, giving you breaks if you need them. The process normally takes about one hour, but it varies from person to person depending on your individual requirements. Immediately after a brow treatment you should expect the area to look 40-50% darker than the colour you have chosen in consultation. This will start to fade after 3-4 days.

A second appointment is needed 4-6 weeks after your first treatment. This is usually a 30-60 minute appointment to add more pigment to the brow area. This is because as the area is healing, some parts may not ‘hold’ as well as others and you may have a few patches that need more colour. This is completely normal and everyone heals differently. Whatever the case, you are advised you should come back to clinic for your retouch.

Q. Should I bring my brow pencil?

A. Yes, it can be useful to see what colour tones you have been using for your brows.

Q. Do you do hairstrokes or block brows?

A. I specialise in ultra-realistic permanent cosmetics. For brows, this means I can imitate natural brow hairs – whether you have any left, or none. Alternatively, if you do want a block brow style that can also be achieved. I will work with you to achieve the perfect brow style for you.

Q. Can I have my brows waxed, then have a brow treatment?

A. Any waxing should be performed at least 48 hours before the treatment.

Q. Can I have electrolysis on my brows, then have a brow treatment?

A. You should wait a minimum of five days between having electrolysis and permanent cosmetics for brows.

Q. Do I have to have all my eyebrows shaved off?

A. No. I prefer you to keep your own brows - don't even tweeze them before you come in as I like to work within your natural shape if possible.

Q. Will you need to remove any of my natural brow hairs?

A. I will work with whatever brow hairs you have. It’s a common myth that brow hairs need to be shaved off for permanent cosmetics treatments. This is not the case at all. The only time brow hairs may need to be removed is if there is any errant growth which needs tidying up, either through tweezing or plucking.

Q. Will my brows look very dark after the treatment?

A. You should be prepared for the colour intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the treatment. This will subside and become lighter as the skin heals. This process can take up to 10 days.
